There are plenty of campsites in Tuscany but not many like this. It is small, simple, has panoramic views from most of the pitches, a great location to explore the nearby Tuscany area and walking distance to a small village with a small grocery shop, a wine bar and a couple of good restaurants.
Camping Semifonte is simple, facilities not the newest but it works. There is a small pool and a play ground for kids. The pitches have a nice tree shading and most also comes with a view overlooking a valley with wines and olive trees.
The campsite is frequently used as an overnight stop for people on bikes and motorbikes as it lies on the way of a crossing Tuscany route. Bread can be ordered such that it is available in the morning.
The nearby village (10 minutes walk), Barberino Val d’Elsa, has a nice atmosphere and you can find a great little wine / lunch place (Enoteca) named “Il canto di baccio”. They have really wine from the local winery “La Spinosa”. For dining we can recommend “Osteria il Campanellino” where you can sit outside with a gorgeous view. Even closer to the campsite you have a good big pizza restaurant.
Below pictures are from Camping Semifonte. We had to do a lot of laundry!
An alternative acccomodation close to Barberino Val d’Elsa if you don’t want to do camping is Agriturismo Due Piani. Their house is very atmospheric in beatiful surroundings. The owners are very friendly and make good wine and olive oil.
For day trips there are plenty of small villages to visit. However, prepare yourself for a lot of tourists in this part of Tuscany. The same goes for the historic village San Gimignano famous for its high towers. Firenze is also a day trip worth but come very early and preferable out of season as this again is extremely crowded (the big Cathedral as well as the Ponte Vecchio bridge to mention a few are very impressive).
If you by any change pass by the little town nearby, Marcialla, then go for lunch or dinner at the restaurant Taverna Del Fiorentino! It is a real gem! Authentic, low key and very good value.
An alternative campsite to Camping Semifonte just next to Marcialla is Camping Panorama Del Chianti. It has an even better panoramic view but is about 20 minutes (up and down hill) walk to Marcialla which is quite dead (no shops, grocery shops, etc). So while both the campsite and above mentioned restaurant is great then you will need a car for getting around.
